Communication Skills

Mindset for Classy Communication

Tip 1: Look for Confidence Over Perfection

Speaking eloquently is not about flawless talk but about talking clearly with confidence. When you are talking stay calm and confident. Aim for clear sentences that convey the message and builds connection. When you talk with confidence and calm you feel in control and you will be able to communicate better. Using fancy words is a skill that can be added later,.

Tip 2: Speak with Purpose

Classy, eloquent women don’t ramble they speak with a purpose. Before you speak, think and gather your thought. Also evaluate if you are adding to the conversation on just repeating yourself or a point that is previously added by others to the conversation. You must be clear on the purpose of what you are going to talk.

A great tip for this is to practice framing your thoughts in free time to help yourself articulate better when you speak in public.

Tip 3: Be a Good Listener

This is so missing in many communication. Most often people do not listen to others and respond immediately. Listening is not just about letting other talk but actually hearing them and letting the words process in your brain. You need to understand the words of others and respond to them. There is no harm in taking a short pause to process the information and thinking before replying.

Also, when you are responding start your sentences with words that will make the other person realize you were actively listeing. For example saying things like,“If I understand correctly…” or “That’s interesting,…” will make others realise you value conversation with them.

Everyday Practical Verbal Communication Tips

Tip 4: Slow Down and Enunciate

This is one of the most simplest but a powerful way to speak classy and improve your communication skills. When you speak too fast it reflects that you are nervous. This may also result in pronouncing words and loose your grace.

Instead just slowing down and emphasizing words that are important, taking breathe between the sentences will help you gain poise and build your authority in the conversation.

Tip 5: Use a Rich but Simple Vocabulary

Once you learn the basics on good communication and have practised the above tips enough to execute them as a second nature you must work on second level of tips to communicate effectively and speak eloquently and that is to enrich your vocabulary.

You don’t need to use fancy difficult words to speak like an elegant women but choose right and precise words to express yourself. Avoid complex sentences and jargons.

Another simple trick that can help you talk elegant is to replace casual words with elegant alternatives. For example: replace “Nice” with “Lovely” or “Charming”, “Mad” with“Frustrated” or “Upset”, “Cool” with “Wonderful” or “Impressive”. Use words that are positive and reflect emotional intelligence.

Tip 6: Eliminate Slang and Harsh Language

If I have to pick just one thing that one need to do to speak elegantly and have a better communication skill. It will be to stop using slang and harsh word. They may be cool in trending world but not in formal or classy conversation. These are a big no for me. Even for simple expression like “OMG” you can say“That’s incredible”. Avoid text speech like “LOL,” “IDK,” “bruh in spoken conversation.

Also, you need to stop using negative and hard words. Try to be assertive and not aggressive even in difficult conversation. Trying to speak kind and keeping yourself positive in such situation is a test of a classy women. Saying things like “That’s stupid,”“I hate this” does not go with eloquent speaking instead you can say “That doesn’t make sense to me” and “This isn’t ideal for me respectively.

When in doubt always choose neutral or positive words, it builds your personality.

Tip 7: Be Polite with Assertiveness

Speaking with grace and positivity is not about pleasing others but showing respect for others while maintaining self respect. You need to ensure you honor your voice too.

Here are some simple ways to do this.

Speak with clear facts using I statements, such as “I’d prefer if we…”

Use firm but courteous phrases such as “I understand, but I see it differently.”

Avoid apologizing for sharing your point to a conversation. Most people say “Sorry, but…” and add their point instead you can say “Can I share my thoughts?”

You must parctice to handle disagreements gracefully and gently build your boundaries with politeness and calm.

Learn Voice & Tone Refinement

Tip 8: Practice Neutral, Warm Tones

One of the essentials to speak classy and eloquently is to learn to use neutral and warm tones. Because tone speak louder than words and warm but neutral tone shows you care mature, in control and elegant person.

Speak calmy with a gentle smile. Don’t raise your voice to be heard instead maintain silence and return to speaking with others are done yelling. You need not go others level to make yourself heard. Silence is sometimes more powerful than words.

Even in difficult situation or when you get emotional maintain neutrality. Its most difficult to do but possible with practice. Do not let other shake your confidence or let them know they got you by being loud. Continue to speak in your gentle tone and stick to facts.

Tip 9: Use Pauses for Emphasis

Pause is an ignored and undervalued tool in communication skills. If you listen to any great public speakers or intellectual individuals they always take pauses while they speak. It helps you land words with impact. Speak with a rhythm that feels thoughtful and elegant.

You must use pause before making an important point to draw attention. It also give listeners time to absorb your words. Pauses can also be used for emotional impact when you are expressing gratitude or disagreement. But make sure to not take longer pauses that can turn into silence or reflect you are lost.

Tip 10: Record yourself and Reflect

When you are training yourself to improve communication skills. You must record yourself and listen to your own voice to reflect and improve. You can record a presentation you are going to present or simply what you are going to do this week.

When you are reflecting, oberve your tone, word choice and pace. Note if you are using filler words like, “um” or drifting from the topic. Try to identify if you can use better words that will help you express with more clarity or positive words.

I highly recommend to keep a log to track your progress. It will help you realise how far you have come and keep you motivated.

Learn Nonverbal Communication

Tip 11: Elegant Body Language

While communication is mostly viewed and judged by words, non verbal communication also plays a significant role. Whether you are sitting or standing have a confident, yet calm posture. Keep you back straight and chin lifted. Maintain a steady eye contact with everyone present and not just one person.

Avoid fidgeting, playing with fingers or hair; its a sign of nerveousness. Lean or turn to the person speaking, it shows you are engaged. Enter the room with confident walk, it will preset the notion of people present in your favor.

Tip 12: Facial Expressions

Most often people work on posture but ignore facial expression. Even I am guilty of it, and for some people like me who instanly express confusion or disaggrement, it was a long journey. But I made a point to be careful about it and got better.

You should have a relaxed face and avoid tense jaws or furrowed eyebrows. Have a gentle, genuine smile to show your openness to conversation. Nod slighlty to show aggrement. Your expression must align with message you are trying to deliver.

For me expression was not a problem during presentations or formal meeting but at other discussions I was not careful about my expressions. I would without realsing roll my eyes or have dramatic expressions like gasping. I recorded myself once and observed these things as became more mindful of these things when I speak in public.

A good trick to improve this is to talk in front of mirror and see how your expressions are when you talk. If will help you find minor things to fix.
