Habits for a Better Life

Want to get life together and level up? You must start with these simple habits for a better life. These habits are easy to start and stack to get started on a personal growth journey and transform your life. So pick one habit and start becoming a better you.

Habits for a Better Life

Write Everything Down to Clear Your Mind

The habit of listing down everything is a habit that has made my work and personal life easy. This habit has made me productive and less forgetful about things. I always have a few pages in my notebook reserved for a To-Do list, to which I keep adding things to do when I come across them.

Each day before starting my work, I spend a few minutes to think anything that needs to be done and including it in my To-Do list. Doing this, I never forget any task, and I am able to plan my work very effectively.

Having a habit of making a To-Do list reduces anxiety as you do not feel overwhelmed by many things, as when it is written, you will take care of it.

I use my Daily Planner to dump everything in my head. It has a To-do list section that helps me schedule them, and the daily dashboard shows me exactly what I need to do every day.

Over the period of making To-Do lists, I have realized that some tasks are repetitive and can be made as a master list to make things easier, such as this Office work task masterlist.

Plan Your Day the Night Before

You should build a habit of planning your day in advance for better time management and make the most of the available time. I like to plan my day the night before. This gives me clarity about the expectation for the day, and I can start my day with the tasks rather than spending time thinking about where to begin.

I start planning my day with my To-Do list and then prioritize tasks. I like to identify the 3 most important tasks that have to be done on the day and focus on getting them completed during the day. The habit of planning the day in advance has improved my productivity and allowed me to spend time on things that bring the desired results.

To make daily planning easier, I like to do weekly and monthly planning too.

Wake Up Early to Start Your Day Calm and Focused

Waking up early may sound cliché as daily habit advice, but it is really a game-changer. When you get in the habit of waking up early every day, you can make the most of the morning hours.

Many successful people swear by getting up early. There are many benefits to getting up early. I feel there is something magical about getting up early, you find calm and uninterrupted time, and find a few minutes for yourself to do things you like and not be worried about reaching work or college on time.

However, just getting up early may not be sufficient; you should build a morning routine around your needs to make the best of waking up early. And everyone’s morning routine needs are different so you must make your routine that best suits your needs and lifestyle. You can read my post on 5 steps to build a morning routine to make the right one for you.

Spend 15 Minutes Alone to Reset Your Mind

The daily habit of spending some time just by yourself can go a long way to help you keep your calm and be intentional with your life. With all the hustle and chaos of life, you may at times feel disconnected from yourself and also get anxious.

You can choose to have this time in the morning or after work as you feel the need. You can just sit quietly, talk to yourself, or journal your thoughts. But spending just as little as 15 minutes by yourself brings a positive change in your life and helps you feel things are under control.

I like to spend a good 15 minutes sitting by the window and sipping water; it is very relaxing and lets me make up for dehydration, as I am one of those who forget to drink water. On days when I don’t spend quite 15 minutes with myself, I am so grumpy.

Learn by Listening

I think having the habit to listen to podcasts daily can help you learn each day and make your life better.

There are so many new things to learn and opportunities to be inspired by great minds around the world to improve your life. I feel so grateful to be living in times when these are easily available to us.

As we all have limited time, I think we can make the best use of our time by listening to podcasts during the commute or while doing monotonous chores. This lets you have your daily dose of learning without spending much time.

You can choose from informational to motivational; there are podcasts and audiobooks available on every topic. You should definitely try to build a habit of learning by listening. I have a section on reading recommendation you will surely find something that suits your needs. I prefer Audible; you can try their free trial.

Habits for a Better Life that are simple and powerful

Work on a Side Hustle (Even in Small Steps)

Since starting this blog as a side hustle, I have learned so many new things, and it has completely changed my lifestyle in a positive way.

Yes, it is a lot of hard work doing it along with a full-time job, but it is all worth it. The satisfaction of making something from scratch with no help or experience is a great boost. I think with the uncertainties in life, it is good to build a side hustle. When I started blogging, I had no clue about it and was not confident that I would be able to make some time for it, but just doing something small each day goes a long way. And I realized that if we make time for anything, it will get done. Running a side hustle has made me look at things and life from a different perspective, and that is so enlightening.

Practice Daily Gratitude to Stay Grounded

Having a daily habit of expressing gratitude brings positivity to your life. You feel more fulfilled and accomplished with life and don’t fall into comparison or complain about others.

Many times I would feel not supported by people around me and experience discontent, but when I practice gratitude, I realize there are many kind people around me.

To continually feel the positive daily expression of gratitude is necessary, although this is something that I don’t do on a daily basis, but I want to make it a daily habit.

Read for Just 5 Minutes Every Day

A daily habit of reading improves your life. I think reading is the best way to spend your time, and even if you don’t have a lot of time, just make a habit of reading for 5 minutes each day, don’t worry about the number of pages you read; just 5 minutes each day, and you will be surprised to see the changes it brings to you. You can choose to read fiction or non-fiction; both will help you improve your focus and creativity and make you calm.

Reading non-fiction books on topics like self-help and biographies will motivate, inspire, and develop soft skills. I like to read a mix of fiction and non-fiction books.

Also, I prefer reading books in spite of listening to podcasts daily, as they cover one topic in depth, whereas podcasts may be for a few minutes, and reading has different benefits compared to listening.

Eat Your Meals on Time to Support Your Energy

To keep your life happy and healthy, eating on time is important. With work throughout the day, we often miss meals, and over time, it can lead to many unhealthy lifestyle issues.

To maintain a good energy level throughout the day and be healthy, it is essential that you make a habit of eating on time. Eating on time is a habit that I have built after realizing that I would get headaches and energy drops because of missing meals, which would affect productivity and my ability to concentrate on work. So, in order to improve your life, you should have the habit of eating on time, or else you may not be able to achieve anything.
